SusCoDe organized a Seminar "Citizen-Based Regeneration of Urban Areas in Germany and Europe" as follows:

"Citizen-Based Regeneration of Urban Areas in Germany and Europe"

The projects and the perspectives on the citizen-based regeneration of urban areas in Germany and Europe were presented by Dr. Ekhart Hahn, emeritus professor for urban ecology at University of Dortmund. And, based on his presentation and the introduction of SusCoDe's policies and efforts, the discussions were done together with the participants from GSES's faculty and students.

Dr. Ekhart Hahn  Emeritus professor for urban ecology at University of Dortmund

Born in 1942, graduated at the faculty of Architecture at Technical University, Berlin in 1969. Since the mid 1970s Dr. Hahn's research work has focused on Urban and Regional Ecology. In the 1980s Dr. Hahn developed the theory and concept of "Ecological Urban Restructuring". Since 1983, he became Director of the Institute Ecological Urban Restructuring Berlin and since 1990 of ECO-City Institute for Ecological Urban Planning and Research. In the 1980s and 1990s he directed numerous eco-city research- and practical pilot projects on the level of Neighborhoods, Cities and the ecological revitalization of the Urban-Regional level. He has been advisor in many national and international ecological model projects. Since 1998 he has been Professor for Urban Ecology at University of Dortmund and since 2003 Guest professor at the University of Aalborg, Denmark. Since 2004 he is in charge of urban ecology at Wismar International Graduation Services GmbH (WINGS), University of Wismar. Dr. Hahn is author of several books and numerous other publications. Many of them are translated in other languages.
