Message

My work focuses on the development of comprehensive methods of evaluation, which apply the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), for the changes in environmental burden that accompany the policy and measures adopted by all types of transportation. This kind of evaluation is vital if we are to realize transportation systems that are kind to the earth's environment. Using these methods, I have shown how "earth-kind" road construction, railways, and the introduction of LRT and BRT have been, in the context of specific regional characteristics. I have also been active in providing practical policy advice, based on actual conditions on the frontline of traffic-related environmental concerns, on transportation systems (EST) supporting urban centers and communities that are kind to both people and the environment, and in particular the role of public transportation.

Today, Japan suffers from a decisive lack of practically talented experts who are able to work in the field while maintaining a scientific and objective perspective. I hope that this program will help to create a new generation of these much-needed practical experts.

Towards the realization of people-friendly, earth-friendly sustainable traffic systems

  • Development of methods to assess the impact of traffic policy on the environment
    - Traffic Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) -
  • Research on how traffic systems (EST) and city management can contribute to the prevention of global warming
  • Research on methodology for revitalization and regeneration of community public transport
